Why I made the switch to safer skin care & better beauty.

September 13, 2019

Before you roll your eyes and the words "pyramid scheme" pop   into your head, I encourage you to read this post all the way until the end. Then, if you still feel the need to roll your eyes, go ahead, by all means.

As a college girl with a marketing degree, I have always been against MLMs or multi level marketing companies. The reason for this is because I felt like I would be a fraud for selling products that I don't personally use. Seriously, why in the hell would I try to sell something to you if I don't even use it myself? Makes no sense, right? I came into Beautycounter very organically. A goal I had set for myself in 2019 was to start taking better care of my skin. I waited until almost August to do it (🙄), but I did it. The main reason I started to look into different skin care products for myself

is because at 23 years old, I was experiencing dry patches from living in a climate that my skin was not accustomed to, my face was uneven looking and just overall DULL. So I called up my cousins who were already Beautycounter consultants and basically begged for their help because I knew NOTHING about skin care. Honestly, you guys, my idea of skin care was using St. Ives Apricot Scrub in the shower and that's literally it. Disgusting, I know. Don't judge me. I ordered Beautycounter's Countermatch skin care line and within four days, I was shocked at what a difference there was in my face already. My face looked hydrated, even toned and brighter. WITHIN. FOUR. DAYS.

Now the reason I am telling you all of this is not to get you to buy products. If you do decide to make some changes in your beauty and skin care routine, amazing. That means I am really good at my new job. But people, I am telling you this because I care about you and between you and I, your current personal care products should probably be thrown in the trash. Bold statement, right? Wrong. Here's why:

*The European Union restricts or bans approximately 1,400 harmful chemicals and ingredients from personal care products. In Canada, that number is approximately 600. Want to know how many harmful chemicals and ingredients are restricted in your personal care products in the U.S.? The answer is 30. THIRTY.

*Beautycounter started by eliminating the 1,400 products banned in the EU and then went the extra mile and added some to the list. There are approximately 1,500 harmful chemicals or ingredients that Beautycounter will never, ever use in their products. Why? Because they're not safe for you!

*Chemicals and ingredients that are in your everyday personal care products have been linked to cancer, genetic mutations, reproductive issues and birth defects.

And that is just the very beginning. Do I have you thinking now? Are you ready to throw all of your personal care products in the trash? I know that it is so easy to just not pay attention to the products you put on your bodies. We buy things because they smell good or the packaging is nice (hello, I'm in marketing... it's basically my job to get you to buy things because it looks nice). I was also totally ignorant to what I was putting on my body. Then I started to do more research and learn this information and I was SHOOK. It made me really want to take the initiative to be better to my body and my skin.

Now, I am very well aware that this is not a change that happens overnight. Little by little, you can educate yourself on the ingredients that you are putting onto your body and make the switch to safer skin care, cleaner cosmetics and better beauty but the first step is to be aware.

So please feel free to reach out to me with any and all questions you may have. Let me hear your reactions... Did this news shock you? Did you already know about these issues in the personal care industry? Let's chat about it. I'm happy to be on the better beauty bus!
